Tips for Managing Multiple Instagram Accounts

With over one billion active monthly users, Instagram is one of the most popular social media sites on the Internet. It is the second most engaged after Facebook, and it’s incredibly popular with users under the age of 35. Naturally, Instagram has become vital in many social media advertising campaigns, which means marketers are likely to have more than one account to make the most of the network.

Users and marketers could always have multiple Instagram accounts, but there was a time when it was very difficult to manage them. If a user wanted to switch to a different Instagram account, they would have to log out completely and log in under one of their other accounts. It was a tedious and cumbersome process, and many users didn’t think it was really worth the hassle. There were third-party apps that made it possible to toggle between Instagram accounts, but they weren’t always reliable. In fact, they had the tendency to make things even worse.

There was no excuse for such a popular social media site to be so grossly inefficient, which is why Instagram released an update in 2017 that allowed users to easily switch from one account to another. This update was long overdue, and it was every bit as welcome as one would expect. Users can now have up to five active Instagram accounts and switch between them with ease, but they still need to know how to best manage all of these accounts. Here are some tips that you might find useful if you ever want to manage more than one active Instagram account.

Adding Additional Instagram Accounts

Tips for Managing Multiple Instagram AccountsInstagram has made it very easy for its members to add new accounts. When you launch the app on your device, go to your profile on the bottom-right corner of your screen, go to the menu on the upper-right corner, and go to Settings. From there, you just need to scroll down to Add Account and enter the username and password of the account you would like to add. You can access notifications on every account you’ve added and change how you would like to receive them. As we said before, you can have up to five Instagram accounts with your app.

Switching Between Accounts

Once you’ve added all the accounts that you want to add, it’s time to learn how to switch between them. Fortunately, Instagram has made this very easy to do too. All you need to do is go to your profile and tap your username at the top of your screen. You will be given a list of accounts that you’ve added, and all you need to do is tap the account you wish to access. Of course, you will also be able to add new accounts from here.

Removing Accounts

Since having five Instagram accounts is too much for one person to handle, there might come a time when you need to remove one or two from your app. As you can probably guess, Instagram has made this easy as well.

To remove an account from your Instagram app, go back to your Settings in your profile menu and select the option to log out of the account you wish to remove. This will remove the account from your Instagram app, but your information won’t be gone. You will be able to access it again by logging back in again just like we discussed above.

What to Do With Multiple Instagram Accounts

Having multiple Instagram accounts is all well and good, but you need to know what to do with them. Some users have a hard-enough time keeping up with a single account, let alone five of them. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways that you can take advantage of these multiple accounts as a marketer.

Tips for Managing Multiple Instagram AccountsFirst of all, it’s always a good idea to have a business account that is separate from your own personal account. It’s far too easy to mix business with your personal life if you have it all on one account, yet many novice entrepreneurs do this exact thing.

Second of all, having multiple accounts is great if you’re running multiple advertising campaigns. You shouldn’t have any conflicting advertising campaigns running from the same app, but having more than one account is still a great way to cover every facet of your business. For example, you can have an account that is dedicated entirely to selling your products and services. Instagram currently has the second-highest average order value compared to Facebook and other social media platforms according to Shopify, so it only makes sense that you have an account that acts as a clear buying channel for your business.

Finally, having multiple Instagram accounts that are dedicated to your business creates transparency. You no doubt have family members and friends who follow you on Instagram to see photos of your children and stories about your life, so you don’t want to bombard them with advertisements for your business if they don’t want to see them.

If they want to learn more about what your business has to offer, you can direct them to your business account. They will be more than happy to receive updates and advertisements from you there since you’ve made it clear that that’s what that account is for.

Instagram has grown to become one of the biggest social media sites on the Internet, and it is certainly one of the most important from a marketing standpoint. Now that it allows users to manage multiple accounts from a single device, it only stands to get bigger over the next few years.

It also goes to show that it will continue to change and evolve as time goes by, so keep an eye on how casual users and marketers alike are using Instagram, and don’t be afraid to experiment a bit with your next marketing campaign. You can have multiple accounts now, which will mean even more chances to market your business.
