How To Manage Multiple Instagram Accounts Better In Less Time
Now that Instagram has over a billion active users, it only makes sense that brands everywhere want to capitalize on this popularity with multiple Instagram accounts. The only problem with this is having to put in enough work to manage all of these accounts. As anyone who has spent any amount of time on social media can tell you, simply managing one account can feel like a full-time job; keeping tabs on multiple accounts that your brand potentially relies on can feel like overkill. Fortunately, you’ll be happy to learn that managing multiple Instagram accounts is a lot easier than you might think. This is mostly thanks to a feature that Instagram rolled out in 2017 that allows users to toggle between multiple accounts, and we’re going to tell you how to make the most of that feature.
Adding Multiple Instagram Accounts
As of now, you can add up to five accounts on the Instagram app. To do this, simply go to your profile on the app, go to settings, and choose to add an account. Enter the username and password of the account that you want to add, and you should be able to switch to it whenever you want. We also recommend not using the same email or phone number for all of your accounts. If you forget the password of one account, you will need a second email or phone number to recover it. It’s easy to forget this and find yourself locked out of all of your accounts.
If you want to switch between accounts, all you need to do is touch your username on your profile page. A drop-down menu should appear that contains all of your Instagram accounts. Touch the name of the account that you want to access, and you’re good to go. You should be able to log out of any accounts just as easily if you don’t want to stay logged in to five accounts at once. When you do log out of an account on Instagram’s mobile app, its name will no longer appear on your profile screen, so make sure that you don’t need to access that particular account on a moment’s notice if you want to log out. Keep in mind that the account will still exist; you just need to add it again.
Push Notifications
Since it can be annoying to constantly receive notifications about all of your Instagram accounts whether you need to see them right away or not, you can customize the app to only push notifications on one or two accounts. To do this, go to “Notifications” under your settings. From here, you can adjust your push notifications, email, and SMS notifications. Go through all of your accounts and make the necessary changes, especially the business accounts that you need to monitor closely.
Working as a Team
Since it can be tough to stay on top of keeping a social media account updated – let alone five accounts – it may help to hire a team who can manage your Instagram accounts. This can be as simple as having one person being in charge of posting updates to the accounts while other team members make updates to the schedule and gather data, or the updates themselves can be a team effort in which members take turns making scheduled updates. If you do have as many as five Instagram accounts to keep updated, you can also assign one member to each account. Each team member’s only job will be to manage one account, which will take a lot of the pressure off of you and the rest of your team. In any case, make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to updates. They should all be communicating with you and with each other to make sure that things are running as smoothly as possible.
Planning Ahead
We’ve mostly only gone through the technical details of managing multiple Instagram accounts, and while that is obviously very important, it still doesn’t solve the issue of keeping all of your accounts updated. You can switch between up to five accounts with the Instagram app, and they all require your attention. Keeping up with these even when you can switch between them with ease is a hassle, but it helps if you set a schedule for updates. It’s best to try to plan two weeks ahead. This means keeping at least two weeks of content ready to go and using it to update your accounts according to your schedule. You don’t need to adhere to this directly, since we all know that things can happen to prevent you from posting new content when planned. The important thing is that you have enough content ready to go so you don’t go too long without regularly updating your accounts.
Maintaining a Theme while Keeping Accounts Separate
Users like Instagram accounts that focus mainly on one topic as opposed to those that try to do everything. This is one of the best reasons to have multiple accounts for your brand. While all the business accounts that you have should be focused on your brand, try to keep the content specific to their own accounts. You ultimately want all of your accounts to receive traffic, so there shouldn’t be too much overlap that could make them redundant. At the same time, don’t forget that you have a brand to promote. It’s okay to have some specialized accounts, but don’t let them get too far away from your business’s mission statement or your own goals.
Keep Updating
Whether you have only one Instagram account or five linked to your app, you should never stop updating them. A lack of new content will only cause your followers and potential clients to leave and look elsewhere. Stick to your posting schedule as closely as you can, and don’t be afraid of deleting one of your accounts if you find that it is redundant and isn’t going to receive any updates.
